It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I’m beginning my second year as the Principal at Washington Academy for the 2021-2022 school year. Washington is truly an amazing community and I am honored to be here. I have enjoyed getting to know the students and families last year and I greatly look forward to meeting more as we welcome all students back into the building.
A little background about me before joining the Washington Family; my name is Chris Walocha and I was an Assistant Principal at Belvidere Central Middle School for three years. Before coming to Belvidere, I was in the Freeport School District. I was a curriculum coordinator for 21st Century Teaching and Learning, IB, and KIDS Assessment. In this role, I had the opportunity to collaborate with teachers and administrators to implement project-based and inquiry-based learning experiences. I assisted an elementary IB school to help students develop their inquiry skills and increase their cultural awareness. I led the rollout of the initial Kindergarten KIDS assessment to ensure all teachers were prepared and ready. As a middle school teacher, I taught 6th grade Math and Social Studies. I attended Illinois State University for my Bachelor's in Mathematics Education, Aurora University for my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, and Saint Xavier University for my LBS1 (Special Education) Endorsement.
It is with a strong commitment that we will continue our amazing work at Washington Academy and I'm looking forward to continuing to lead and learn together as a community. I hope you and your family have had a safe and enjoyable summer.
